Fall 2013

Dear friends,

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since I launched Fredrickson Financial Planning within Garrett Investment Advisors, LLC. The time has flown by. I am grateful to Garrett Investment Advisors for helping me hit the ground running, providing me with back office support that allowed me to focus on working with clients.

The affiliation with Garrett Planning Network has also been great, offering access to hundreds of like-minded planners and experts around the country who work on a fee-only basis with no incentive to offer any particular products.

Dozens of people have contacted me inquiring about my services. Enough of you have signed up that I can expect to make a reasonable living on my own terms – providing highly customized financial plans for people of all income levels who have been frustrated by the over-priced, cookie-cutter financial advice served up by bigger firms.

Many of my clients have the same questions – how can I save for my children’s college education, buy real estate and plan for retirement all at the same time?  How can I responsibly invest an inheritance or insurance settlement so that I can balance my needs and wishes with those of the rest of my family?

By breaking down the planning into reasonable steps, I have been able to give my clients clarity and peace of mind. I have yet to work with clients who, even if they have to take significant corrective measures, are in a situation that is beyond help. The key is getting started early enough.

Those of you for whom I have created plans can expect to hear from me soon. I will be contacting you to arrange annual reviews – checkups, if you will. Of course, feel free to contact me with any questions that you have before that time.

When I started the newsletters, I produced one every month. I have found that schedule too demanding so I will produce these quarterly. I also plan to update the blog regularly and will periodically send you updates of recent blog items unless of course you prefer not to receive them.

Later this month, after undergoing training, I will join an exclusive group of advisors who are certified to offer mutual funds from Dimensional Fund Advisors. (DFA funds may not be suitable for all investors.)

Thanks for a for an interesting and enjoyable year.
